Hold your crutches correctly
Keep the crutches close to your body. Support your body weight with your hands
Walking
Lean forward and place the crutches carefully in front of your body, without resting your weight on the affected lower limb. Use the handrests. Carefully move the healthy lower limb forward, placing the foot slightly beyond the crutches. Keep your head up and your posture aligned for better balance. When using crutches, pay attention to possible obstacles that could cause you to lose your balance and fall (e.g. rugs, coffee tables, slippery or wet floors, pets, etc.).
Sit down
Turn your back to the chair and approach so that you feel the chair on the back of your lower limbs. Make sure the chair is sturdy and won’t slide back when you sit down. Remove the crutches from under your arms. Hold the crutches with one hand and grip the chair firmly with your free hand. Slowly lower yourself to the seat.
Standing
Position yourself on the edge of the chair. If you are using a wheelchair, apply the brakes. Place the healthy lower limb on the floor.
